Formidex

Formidex is a free online image editing tool with 18 tools that run entirely in your browser. All processing takes place locally on your device. No images are uploaded to servers, no accounts required and no limits set.

What makes Formidex special: The AI-powered tools like background removal, text recognition and image upscaling use neural networks that run directly in your browser. Your images never leave your device at any point. This is not a promise but a technical fact.

Formidex was built because most existing online tools are either too expensive, require accounts, upload images to third-party servers or limit the quality of results.

You open one of the 18 tools, upload an image or drag it into the editing area. Processing starts immediately in your browser. For AI tools, a model is downloaded once on first use and stored locally.

The result is displayed in a before-and-after view. You can adjust settings like quality, format or size and download the result as PNG, JPG or WebP.

For multiple images there is a batch mode. All processed images can be downloaded as a ZIP file. All processing happens locally without any server connection.

Formidex offers three categories of tools.

AI-powered tools: Background removal uses the RMBG-1.4 model to automatically cut out objects. Text recognition (OCR) extracts text from images and screenshots in over 100 languages. Image upscaling enlarges images with the ESRGAN model without quality loss. Face pixelation automatically detects and anonymizes faces for GDPR-compliant images. Alt text generation creates accessible image descriptions for websites.

Image editing: Compress reduces file size by up to 80% without visible quality loss. Format conversion converts between PNG, JPG, WebP and AVIF. Resize adjusts image dimensions pixel-perfect or by percentage. Flip and rotate transforms images horizontally, vertically or by 90 degrees. Crop cuts images with freely selectable or fixed aspect ratios. Watermark adds text or image watermarks. Metadata removal displays EXIF data and removes GPS location and other hidden information.

Conversion and utilities: Vectorize converts raster images to scalable SVG graphics. Color palette extracts dominant colors as HEX, RGB and HSL. QR code generator creates QR codes for text, URLs, WiFi and contact data. QR code scanner reads QR codes from images or via camera. Base64 encoding converts images to data URIs for web developers. Favicon generator creates favicons in all required sizes from a single image.

For web developers: Compress images for websites and convert to WebP to improve loading times. Generate favicons, create Base64 strings for inline images and automatically generate alt texts for SEO.

For e-commerce: Cut out product photos for a professional white background. Resize images and compress for different marketplaces.

For content creators: Crop images for social media (1:1 for Instagram, 16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for Stories). Add watermarks to protect your work. Remove backgrounds for thumbnails and presentations.

For privacy-conscious users: Remove metadata and GPS location from images before sharing online. Automatically pixelate faces in street photography or real estate photos.

Formidex is built with Next.js 16, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS. The AI tools use Transformers.js from Hugging Face for background removal and image captioning, Tesseract.js for text recognition, UpscalerJS with ESRGAN for upscaling and MediaPipe from Google for face detection. All classic image editing tools use the browser's native Canvas API. The app is installable as a Progressive Web App (PWA) and supports dark mode.

Formidex processes all images exclusively locally in the browser. No images are uploaded to servers, stored or analyzed. The AI models are downloaded once on first use and stored in the browser cache. Formidex itself has no technical access to users' images. Funding is through Google AdSense. Cookie consent is handled via Google Consent Mode v2.
