About BrowserCut
BrowserCut is a free video editor that runs entirely in the browser. You can cut, merge, add subtitles and export videos in different formats without installing any software.
The application processes everything locally on your computer. Your videos are never uploaded to a server. This makes BrowserCut not only fast but also particularly privacy friendly.
With 13 different editor tools, batch processing, social media presets and an audio waveform editor, BrowserCut offers a professional feature set that can compete with many desktop programs.
How It Works
You open browsercut.com and load your video directly into the browser. The file is processed through the Origin Private File System (OPFS), which enables smooth editing even with large files.
The editor offers a timeline with drag and drop, real time preview and numerous tools: cutting, trimming, merging, speed adjustment, rotation, mirroring, text overlays, subtitles and audio editing.
For social media there are pre made presets for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and more. You select the format and BrowserCut automatically adjusts resolution and aspect ratio.
Export is done through WebCodecs and FFmpeg.wasm directly in the browser.
Use Cases
BrowserCut is suitable for various use cases.
Content creators use it to cut their videos for YouTube, TikTok or Instagram directly in the browser. The social media presets automatically adjust resolution and aspect ratio to the respective format. You select Instagram Reel and BrowserCut formats your video to 9:16.
Teachers and lecturers use BrowserCut to trim screen recordings and add subtitles. The subtitle function supports manual input and various display styles.
For quick edits on the go, BrowserCut is ideal. You do not need to install software, create an account or upload files. Drag video into the browser, cut, export, done.
Journalists and bloggers use BrowserCut to trim interview recordings. The audio waveform view makes it easy to find and remove silent passages.
Privacy conscious users appreciate that their videos never leave the computer. No cloud, no upload, no third party servers.
Technologies
BrowserCut is built with Next.js 15 and TypeScript. The UI uses Tailwind CSS and shadcn/ui components.
For video processing, WebCodecs and FFmpeg.wasm are used. Large files are processed through OPFS (Origin Private File System).
The application is installable as a PWA and works offline. The project consists of 145 files with over 36,000 lines of code and 34 automated tests.
Security rating: 10/10. GDPR rating: 10/10. SEO rating: 9/10.
