MetaDataGone
Securely remove metadata from files
MetaDataGone removes EXIF data, GPS coordinates, author information and other hidden metadata from your files. Everything is processed locally in the browser, no files are uploaded.
About MetaDataGone
MetaDataGone is an online tool for removing sensitive metadata from your files. Photos often contain hidden information like GPS coordinates, camera model, capture date and sometimes even the photographer's name. PDFs can store the author, the software used and editing histories.
With MetaDataGone you remove this hidden data with just a few clicks before sharing or uploading files. The tool is especially important for GDPR compliant workflows where personal metadata must be removed before sharing.
MetaDataGone processes your files directly in the browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server.
How It Works
You load your files into the browser. MetaDataGone reads the metadata and shows you an overview of all information found. You see exactly which data is included: GPS location, camera model, author, creation date and more.
With one click you remove all or selected metadata. The cleaned file is provided directly for download.
The processing takes place entirely in the browser. Your files never leave your computer.
Use Cases
MetaDataGone is indispensable in various contexts.
Journalists remove GPS data from photos before publishing them. This prevents the shooting location from being revealed, which can be crucial for sensitive investigations.
Law firms and companies clean up PDF documents before sending them to clients or business partners. Editing histories, internal comments and author fields can contain confidential information.
Online sellers on platforms like eBay or Etsy remove metadata from product photos. Buyers should not be able to see where the photos were taken or which device was used.
For GDPR compliant workflows, MetaDataGone is an important tool. Personal data in metadata (GPS location, device ID, username) must be removed before sharing.
Technologies
MetaDataGone is built with Next.js 14 and TypeScript. Metadata processing runs entirely in the browser through JavaScript libraries for EXIF, IPTC and XMP data.
Payment for Personal and Professional plans is handled through LemonSqueezy. Licenses are valid for 3 years.
There is no custom backend server for file processing. All operations take place on the client side.
