RedactLocal

Planned local-first tool for redacting PDFs and images

Released: July 2026Last updated: May 2026

RedactLocal should process sensitive documents and images locally in the browser. The planned focus is traceable manual redaction, metadata hygiene and a recheck before export, without making false technical guarantees.

About RedactLocal

RedactLocal is planned as a local-first redaction tool. Users should import PDFs and images, manually redact sensitive areas, remove metadata and export the result more safely.

The project is not live yet. Features are therefore described as planned and not sold as an already available security solution.

Planned Redaction Workflow

An import for PDF, PNG and JPG is planned. Users mark sensitive areas manually, apply a real redaction layer, remove metadata and review the result again before export.

Export modes such as Standard Secure and Paranoid should represent different safety levels. The exact technical implementation must be tested before launch.

Use Cases

RedactLocal is planned for invoices, contracts, screenshots, IDs, support attachments and internal documents where sensitive content should be removed before sharing.

The tool should not replace legal approval. For highly sensitive documents, an additional manual or professional check remains useful.

Planned Technical Implementation

RedactLocal is planned as a local browser/PWA solution. PDF and image processing should run client side, complemented by metadata cleanup and a recheck step before export.

Technical limits are important: invisible text layers, OCR content, embedded objects or faulty exports can make redaction complex. RedactLocal must therefore not claim an absolute safety guarantee.

Privacy and Security Concept

The concept is local-first: documents should not be uploaded but processed in the browser and exported locally.

Privacy-friendly here means reduced data exposure, not guaranteed perfection. Users must review exported files before sharing sensitive documents.

Planned local redaction

  1. Import file

    Load PDF or image locally.

  2. Redact areas

    Manually mark sensitive information.

  3. Clean metadata

    Reduce hidden information.

  4. Run recheck

    Review export result.

  5. Export safely

    Save local file.

Planned RedactLocal Pipeline

Import, redaction, metadata cleanup, recheck and export should run locally.
