ScanBeforeOpen
Check links and QR destinations before opening them
ScanBeforeOpen brings security awareness into the moment before a click. The tool checks visible patterns, suspicious domains and QR contents, formulates hints and deliberately leaves the decision to the user.
About ScanBeforeOpen
ScanBeforeOpen is a lightweight security tool for links and QR codes. It is for users who want to better assess a destination before opening it.
The project is not an antivirus scanner and not a professional security suite. It shows risk hints, explains suspicious patterns and supports more deliberate decisions.
Check Workflow
You enter a link or check QR content. ScanBeforeOpen analyzes visible patterns such as domain spelling, unusual parameters, redirect indicators or suspicious characters.
Where possible, checks run locally in the browser. The result is a hint profile, not a guarantee. Users then decide deliberately whether to open the destination or stop.
Use Cases
ScanBeforeOpen is useful for QR codes on posters, links in emails, shortened URLs, messenger messages or unknown destinations on mobile devices.
The tool is especially useful when you do not want to open a link directly but need a first technical assessment.
Technical Implementation
The web app processes inputs locally in the browser where possible. Pattern checks can run without accounts, without a database and without a user profile.
If external reputation services or network checks are added later, they must be clearly labelled as server or third-party assisted. The current project description therefore avoids absolute protection claims.
Privacy and Limits
ScanBeforeOpen is designed as privacy friendly and does not rely on tracking by default. Inputs should not be stored unnecessarily for local pattern checks.
The tool cannot reliably detect malware, does not replace antivirus software and does not guarantee safety. It reduces uncertainty through visible hints and better decision support.
