How do I create my first observation?
Start a new observation. The guided question assistant helps you phrase your question, or you pick one of the twelve prepared topic templates.
App support
Ownplora is an app for iPhone and iPad that lets you record and evaluate personal observations. The app is in development and not yet available on the App Store. This help describes the planned flow. Labels in the app can change before release.
Start a new observation. The guided question assistant helps you phrase your question, or you pick one of the twelve prepared topic templates.
Create a measurement and choose its type: number, scale, yes or no, category or event. Measurements can be reused in several observations.
In the shared daily check-in you enter the values of your observations in one go. You can add notes, events and photos.
Pick a topic template when you start and adjust it. You can import structured external study templates. They are not automatically scientifically reviewed, so check the source.
Open an observation and switch to the evaluation. There you find trends, descriptive figures and notes on methodological limits.
Charts show your recorded values over time. A visible pattern does not prove cause and effect. Note the hints about the limits of the evaluation.
Add photos in an entry or check-in. The photos are stored locally in Ownplora. They can be included when you export.
Reminders belong to measurement plans. Activate them voluntarily and allow notifications in iOS. They are local notifications.
The connection is optional. Allow reading steps and sleep in the iOS dialog. Ownplora only reads and does not write to Apple Health.
Change the access in the iOS settings under Health or in the Health app. Values that were already imported can stay stored in Ownplora until you remove them there.
You can create PDF reports and machine-readable exports. Some exports are unencrypted and can contain sensitive information. Only pass them to recipients you trust.
Create an encrypted personal backup and store it yourself in a place of your choice. Keep the backup file and any related access information safe. Tommsel holds no copy of them.
Choose restore in the app, select the backup file and follow the steps in the app. Afterwards check your observations before you rely on the restored data.
Use the app's delete functions for entries or observations. Deleting the app removes the local data from the device as far as iOS provides for it. Exported files and operating system backups are separate.
Ownplora is available in German and English. Whether you switch the language in the app settings or in the iOS language settings will only be settled at release.
Ownplora supports light and dark and offers selectable accent colors. You find the settings in the app.
A chart needs several entries over time. Enter values on a few days and check that the measurement is assigned to the observation.
Check whether you allowed access for steps and sleep and whether Apple Health holds data for those days. Ownplora cannot always tell whether access was denied or there is no data.
Check whether notifications are allowed for Ownplora in iOS, whether the reminder is active in the measurement plan, and whether a Focus or quiet mode suppresses notifications.
Open the entry in the observation and edit or delete it. Evaluations are then recalculated from your data.
With an encrypted Ownplora backup that you store yourself. In addition, iPhone or iCloud backups from iOS can contain app data, depending on your system settings.
